When any person develops software, writes a book or research paper or invents any method or the machine, it becomes the intellectual property of that person. Intellectual property is intangible creations of the human intellect. Just like other property the intellectual property can be stolen. To prevent theft or illegal use or spread of intellectual property, Intellectual Property Right is exercised. Through these rights, intellectual property is protected with the help of copyrights, patents, and trademarks. They allow creators or owners of patents, trademarks or copyrighted works to benet from their work or investment. Under these rights, no other person or organization can copy or reproduce any other’s intellectual property. Intellectual property rights are acclaimed worldwide. In Pakistan, Intellectual Property Organization (IP O ) r e gulat e s the matt e r s regarding intellectual property rights.

Intellectual Property Right

Intellectual property rights related to computer usage in academia require precise definition. The Office of Technological Assessment has made great strides in this direction. States, universities, and professional organizations have dealt with the inherent complexities of the problem. Legal cases have tested current laws. Attorneys have made clear distinctions between copyrights and patents related to intellectual property rights. Both EDU‐COM and ADAPSO have addressed societal and ethical issues in written documents. Business, industry, and professional organizations have been concerned, but society and especially educators must also address intellectual property rights. Copyright laws related to electronic media must be honored. Computer ethics and computer law should be included in current computer science courses. Academia has the responsibility to educate all those on campus as to appropriate ethical and legal behavior with respect to these issues. Academia cannot hide or ignore these problems.
Computer products consist of those parts of the computer you can see and touch (e.g., the keyboard, CPU, printer, and monitor). They are considered products because they have tangible form and intrinsic value. A service is an act carried out on behalf of someone, usually a customer. If the service is going to be paid for, the provider must strive to please the customer; it is crucial. If the service is not to be paid for, the act must then be performed to the liking of the provider.
